Lockhart State Park lists a July average high of 93 degrees, and spring and summer are its busy season. When a rooftop air conditioner quits in July, the inside of a camper heats up fast. Packing up a leveled, hooked-up RV to go find a shop can end the trip early. A fifth wheel parked beside a house in town has the same problem.
River Cities RV Service is based in San Marcos, and Lockhart is part of our service area. Our mobile RV repair comes to travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes and campers at the campsite or in the driveway. RV air conditioner repair is the summer call we get most, and we can do it where the RV sits. Call or text (512) 850-7257 to set up a service call.
Tell us about your RV, what is wrong and where it is parked. We diagnose the problem and put the repair quote in writing.
Lockhart State Park sits just south of town, off US 183 and FM 20. The Civilian Conservation Corps began building the park in 1935, and WPA workers added its nine-hole golf course. Its CCC-built group hall overlooks the golf course and the broad valley of Plum Creek. The state calls the park an easy drive from Austin and San Antonio, and it often reaches capacity.
The park has two camping areas with hookups. Fairway View has 10 full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp power, for RVs up to 40 feet. The Clear Fork Creek area has 10 water and electric sites under large trees, with 30 amp power.
On 30 amp power, running two air conditioners at once can trip the breaker. If the RV keeps losing power anyway, the fault may be inside the RV. We trace it at the campsite, and the park looks after its own hookup pedestal.
State Park RV Village, a newer long-term park on State Park Road, has 44 full hookup sites. A long stay means the fridge and the AC run every day. RV annual maintenance checks the roof seals and the appliances right at the site.
Hail is mostly a spring event here. Of 40 Caldwell County hail reports to the Weather Service from 2015 to 2026, 37 came from March to May. In May 2020, reports logged hail up to 2 inches in Lockhart and 4 miles south of town.
Hail can crack roof vents and split old sealant at the seams. The leak often shows up later as a ceiling stain. We reseal the seams and vents, and we replace a roof that is past saving. Dents and cracks in the sidewalls go to our body specialist.
Thunderstorm winds hit hard too. In October 2022, storm reports noted trees and power lines down in downtown Lockhart. In January 2020, wind blew two 18-wheelers over on SH 130 just north of town.
An awning left out in wind like that can bend its arms or tear its fabric. RV awning repair covers new fabric and bent arms, plus power awning motors and switches.
Lockhart winters are mostly mild, and the state park lists a January average low of 44 degrees. Hard freezes still come. In February 2021, storm reports put snow at 3 to nearly 5 inches in and around Lockhart.
Water left in an RV's lines can freeze and crack a fitting or the water pump. The leak often turns up when the weather warms and the pump runs again. RV plumbing and water heater repair finds the crack and replaces the part.
Cold nights also keep the RV furnace burning propane for hours. If it blows cold air or will not light, call or text before the next cold front. We check the furnace along with the propane regulator and lines that feed it.
From San Marcos, the drive runs about 18 road miles on SH 80 and SH 142, past Martindale. SH 142 becomes San Antonio Street in town. US 183 runs north toward Austin and south about 15 miles to Luling and I-10.
SH 130 runs south beside US 183 to the north edge of Lockhart, then southwest to I-10 at Seguin. Downtown wraps around the historic Caldwell County Courthouse. The Texas Legislature named Lockhart the Barbecue Capital of Texas in 1999.
The town keeps growing. Census figures show 14,379 people in 2020 and an estimated 18,159 in 2025. Census survey data counts about 7 in 10 homes in town as single-family houses. When the RV sits at home, the service call comes to the driveway.
The service call covers the diagnosis and the trip, and Lockhart sits well inside our 50-mile radius. After the diagnosis, we put the repair quote in writing and order any parts it needs. You can also bring the RV to our San Marcos shop. If it cannot be fixed where it sits, a towing company can haul it there.

Josh replaced the a/c and heater control board in my travel trailer he did an awesome job I highly recommend him
We discovered just 4 days before our Thanksgiving trip that our RV slide-out wasn’t working. We contacted Josh, and he came out the very same day to diagnose the issue. He quickly ordered the necessary parts and managed to get everything repaired in time for our trip. Josh was professional, efficient, and highly communicative throughout the entire process, keeping us informed every step of the way. His pricing is very reasonable, and we truly appreciate the extra effort he put in to ensure we were able to leave on time. Highly recommend his RV repair services!
Josh and his team are amazing. He replaced my roof on my wildcat 5th wheel. And once it rained he returned twice to assess any leaks and concerns. He’s my repair guy now! Thank you Josh!!!!
Josh was great. He answered all of my questions. He installed a new roof on my rv, it honestly looked brand new like it rolled off the factory line. He was fast and reliable! Definitely calling him back for an AC job next.
Josh helped me with my RV A/C repair in a pinch and was absolutely wonderful and professional. Without his help in replacing my A/C this summer would have been unbearable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Y’all! I cannot say enough amazing things about River Cities RV Service. Josh was absolutely incredible and got us out a tough situation with zero AC in July in Texas. He came to Lockhart State Park where we were staying and fixed us up.
