When the lights go dim or the outlets go dead, the fault can sit anywhere in the RV's power system. River Cities RV Service handles RV electrical repair on both the 12-volt side and the 120-volt side. That covers batteries, converters, inverters, shore power, fuses, breakers and wiring. RV generator repair is part of the same work, for onboard generators that will not start or hold a load.
We come to the RV at an RV park, a campground, a storage lot or your driveway. You can also bring it to our San Marcos shop. As with all of our mobile RV repair in San Marcos, the service call covers the diagnosis and the trip. Then the repair quote goes in writing, and we order any parts it needs.

Most RVs run on two electrical systems. The house batteries feed the 12-volt side: the lights, the fans, the water pump and the furnace blower. Shore power or the generator feeds the 120-volt side, which runs the outlets and the air conditioner. The converter turns 120-volt power into 12-volt power and charges the batteries.
When the batteries run down on shore power, we start at the converter. We test its output, then the fuses and the wiring to the batteries. Check the battery disconnect switch too, since it cuts the batteries off from the RV. Turn it off in storage, so the propane and carbon monoxide detectors cannot drain the battery.
An inverter does the reverse job. It turns 12-volt battery power into 120-volt power for appliances when shore power and the generator are off. RV inverter repair starts with the batteries that feed it, then the inverter and its wiring. Both systems also get checked during a yearly RV maintenance visit.
An onboard generator runs the RV's 120-volt side away from shore power. NOAA climate normals put the San Marcos average high above 90 degrees from June through September. In those months, the air conditioner is one of the two big loads on a generator.
The other is the converter's battery charger, which starts on its own and is easy to miss. A generator maker's handbook says an air conditioner can draw up to three times its running power as it starts. Together those loads can stall the generator or trip its breaker. A failing air conditioner is a job for RV AC repair.
Sitting unused is hard on a generator too. The handbook says gasoline can start to gum up the fuel system in as little as 30 days. The result is hard starts and surging. To prevent that, the handbook calls for two hours of running every month at half load or more.
Shore power reaches the RV through its power cord, from the campsite's pedestal or an outlet at home. The pedestal and the site wiring belong to the park, and house wiring belongs to an electrician. We work on the RV's side of the plug.
A dead outlet can trace to a tripped GFCI outlet, the kind with test and reset buttons. One RV maker's manual puts the kitchen and patio outlets behind a GFCI. A breaker that trips again with every load off can mean a short in the wiring, and we trace it.
The transfer switch picks between shore power and the generator on its own. If the generator runs but the RV stays dark, check the breaker on the generator. If it has not tripped, a generator maker's troubleshooting guide points to the transfer switch.

Josh replaced the a/c and heater control board in my travel trailer he did an awesome job I highly recommend him
We discovered just 4 days before our Thanksgiving trip that our RV slide-out wasn’t working. We contacted Josh, and he came out the very same day to diagnose the issue. He quickly ordered the necessary parts and managed to get everything repaired in time for our trip. Josh was professional, efficient, and highly communicative throughout the entire process, keeping us informed every step of the way. His pricing is very reasonable, and we truly appreciate the extra effort he put in to ensure we were able to leave on time. Highly recommend his RV repair services!
Josh and his team are amazing. He replaced my roof on my wildcat 5th wheel. And once it rained he returned twice to assess any leaks and concerns. He’s my repair guy now! Thank you Josh!!!!
