RV refrigerator repair starts with what the fridge is doing. Maybe it quit cooling, or it cools on electric but not on propane. Maybe the control panel went dark, or the fridge smells like ammonia. We find the cause, then put the quote for the repair in writing.
We work on absorption fridges that run on propane and electric, and on 12-volt compressor fridges. The service call comes to your RV at an RV park, a campground, a storage lot or a driveway. You can also bring the RV to our San Marcos shop. Our mobile RV repair around San Marcos reaches about 50 miles, to the edges of Austin and San Antonio.

An absorption fridge makes cold from heat, which comes from a propane flame or an electric heating element. One fridge maker's service manual notes the design has no mechanical pump or compressor. Liquid ammonia runs through the cooling coils by gravity. That is why a parked RV has to sit close to level.
When the fridge is warm on every power source, look at what both sources share. That manual's troubleshooting list covers the venting, the level, the door seals and the temperature sensor before the cooling unit. A dollar bill shut in the door should drag as you pull it out. If it slides out easily, that part of the seal leaks.
The same manual says the controls need steady 12-volt power, even when the fridge runs on propane or electric. They work down to 9.6 volts, so a run-down battery can shut the fridge off. A loose wire can make it act up, too. Battery and converter trouble falls under RV electrical and generator repair.
An absorption fridge pulls heat from the food compartment and sends it out through the vents behind it. The same service manual says hotter outside air means hotter air around the cooling unit. A fridge that warms up as the afternoon heats up points at poor venting or a weak cooling unit.
Summer in San Marcos puts that to the test. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals put the average August high at about 97 degrees. July and August each average more than 28 days at 90 degrees or hotter. A fridge that keeps up in April can fall behind in August.
We come to the RV along the I-35 corridor and out into the Hill Country. At the RV, we check the vents for bird and insect nests and anything else that blocks the air. Then we run the fridge on each power source to find the cause.
The cooling unit is the sealed set of coils on the back of an absorption fridge. It holds ammonia, hydrogen, water and a rust inhibitor under pressure. A leak outside the cabinet can leave a yellow deposit where the ammonia escapes. One maker's service manual recommends no repairs on a failed cooling unit, only a new one.
Replacement means a new cooling unit on the old fridge, or a whole new fridge. Some owners switch to a 12-volt compressor fridge, which runs off the house batteries. One 12-volt fridge manual says a low battery makes it shut the compressor off to protect itself. So the batteries and the charging have to keep up.
The written quote spells out the replacement before any work starts. Once you say yes, we order what the job needs and set a time to install it.

Josh replaced the a/c and heater control board in my travel trailer he did an awesome job I highly recommend him
We discovered just 4 days before our Thanksgiving trip that our RV slide-out wasn’t working. We contacted Josh, and he came out the very same day to diagnose the issue. He quickly ordered the necessary parts and managed to get everything repaired in time for our trip. Josh was professional, efficient, and highly communicative throughout the entire process, keeping us informed every step of the way. His pricing is very reasonable, and we truly appreciate the extra effort he put in to ensure we were able to leave on time. Highly recommend his RV repair services!
Josh and his team are amazing. He replaced my roof on my wildcat 5th wheel. And once it rained he returned twice to assess any leaks and concerns. He’s my repair guy now! Thank you Josh!!!!
