RV Slide-Out Repair in San Marcos, TX

Slide-Out Repair · San Marcos, TX

For slides that stall and seals that leak

RV slide-out repair gets a stuck or leaking slide working again. A slide can stall halfway or refuse to come back in. It can also let rain in at the seals. River Cities RV Service repairs slide-outs on travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes and campers.

The service call covers the diagnosis and the trip to your RV. After the diagnosis, the quote for the repair goes in writing. When the repair needs parts, we order them. RV slide-out repair is one part of our mobile RV repair in San Marcos and across the Hill Country.

Why won't my RV slide-out go in or out?

Slide makers' manuals start with the battery. A slide motor needs full battery voltage, and a weak battery can slow the room or stop it. One maker's manual says its room will not move at 10.5 volts or below. If the battery keeps running low, that is a job for RV electrical repair.

Next, look for something in the way, like an open cabinet inside or a post outside. One maker's manual warns that dirt or metal shavings in the gear rack can bind the gear. On some motorhomes, the slide will not move until the parking brake is set.

When those check out, we test the switch, the fuse or breaker, the wiring and the controller. Then we check the motor or the hydraulic pump, and the parts that move the room. A slide with a motor on each side can fall out of sync, and one end then runs ahead.

Slide-out seals and leaks in San Marcos heat and rain

A slide-out has seals on the outside and the inside of the opening. Slide makers' manuals say the outside seals press against the wall when the room is in. The inside seals press tight when the room is out. If a seal is torn or the room sits out of adjustment, water can get past it.

Heat wears on rubber seals, and San Marcos summers are long. NOAA's normals for San Marcos count about 117 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter. The same normals show about 11 days a year with an inch of rain or more. A worn seal often shows itself in the first hard rain.

Some leaks near a slide start higher up. Water can run down from a roof seam or a vent, and RV roof repair covers that. Slide toppers keep leaves and water off the slide roof, and RV awning repair covers a torn one. We trace the leak first, then fix the seals and any water damage to the slide floor and walls.

RV slide repair for full-timers and weekenders in the Hill Country

Full-time RVers in the area's RV parks may leave a slide out for months. One slide maker's manual says to run the room in and out once or twice a month. It says that keeps the seals and moving parts lubricated. For long-term storage, the same manual says to keep the room closed.

Weekend campers and travelers on I-35 put their slides out each time they set up. Slide makers' manuals say solid, level ground helps the slide move as it should.

We come to the RV where it sits, within about 50 miles of San Marcos. That takes in RV parks along I-35 and campgrounds at Canyon Lake and along the Guadalupe River. You can also bring the RV to our San Marcos shop.

FAQ

Slide-Out Repair Questions, Answered

Common questions about slide-out repair around San Marcos and the Hill Country. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (512) 850-7257

How much does RV slide-out repair cost?
The price turns on what failed and how much work the fix takes. A blown fuse is a small job, while a new motor or new cables add parts and time. The service call covers the diagnosis and the trip, and the written quote follows the diagnosis.
My slide is stuck out. Can I bring it in by hand?
First, plug into shore power or run the generator and try the switch again. Many slide systems also have a manual override, and the slide's manual shows where it is. One slide maker's manuals warn that cranking past the stop can strip the gears. If the slide still will not come in, call or text (512) 850-7257.
Should I grease my RV slide-out?
Check the manual for your slide first. One slide maker's manuals say its gear systems need no grease, and that grease can sometimes do harm. They say to keep the racks clean with mild soap and water instead. When a slide still drags, we find out why.
Do you repair hydraulic slide-outs?
Yes. On a hydraulic slide, a pump moves fluid to a cylinder, and the cylinder moves the room. A slow or stalled room can mean low fluid or a leak at a line or the cylinder. We check the pump and the fluid before we quote the repair.
Can you repair the floor under a leaking slide?
Yes. Water that gets past a slide seal can soak the slide floor and stain the walls. We stop the leak first, then repair the damage it left.
Can slide-out repair go through an insurance claim?
It can, when your coverage includes the failure. We diagnose the slide at your RV and send the write-up to the company that holds your coverage. Once the claim is approved, we make the repair and you pay your deductible. Our page on RV warranty and insurance repairs walks through each step.

We discovered just 4 days before our Thanksgiving trip that our RV slide-out wasn’t working. We contacted Josh, and he came out the very same day to diagnose the issue. He quickly ordered the necessary parts and managed to get everything repaired in time for our trip. Josh was professional, efficient, and highly communicative throughout the entire process, keeping us informed every step of the way. His pricing is very reasonable, and we truly appreciate the extra effort he put in to ensure we were able to leave on time. Highly recommend his RV repair services!

Josh and his team are amazing. He replaced my roof on my wildcat 5th wheel. And once it rained he returned twice to assess any leaks and concerns. He’s my repair guy now! Thank you Josh!!!!
