A cold shower or a puddle under the sink means something in the RV's plumbing has failed. River Cities RV Service handles RV water heater repair and RV plumbing repair where your RV sits. We come to you across the Hill Country and the I-35 corridor. You can also bring the RV to our San Marcos shop.
Plumbing work follows the same steps as all of our mobile RV repair in San Marcos. The service call covers the diagnosis and the trip to your site. Once we find the fault, you get the written quote for the repair. When the fix needs a part, we order it and finish the job when it arrives.
Tell us about your RV, what is wrong and where it is parked. We diagnose the problem and put the repair quote in writing.
Some RV water heaters run on propane alone, and others add a 120-volt electric element. When hot water fails on one source only, the fault sits on that side. On propane we test the igniter, the burner, the gas valve and the high-limit switch. Sometimes the trouble sits upstream at the regulator, part of our RV propane system service.
On electric we test the element, its switch, the thermostat and the breaker. One water heater maker's manual names the most common electric failure: switching the element on before the tank is full. Even a short run on an empty tank can burn the element out. A tank left in bypass after winter stays empty, so the same thing can happen.
When the tank itself leaks, the heater is usually done. We install a new one, either a tank unit or a tankless unit that heats water as it flows. Worn parts like elements and relief valves can be replaced without a new heater. Water heater checks are also part of every RV annual maintenance visit.
The water pump in an RV is usually a 12-volt pump with a built-in pressure switch. It starts when a faucet opens and stops once the lines reach pressure. When it keeps running with every faucet closed, pump makers point to a short list of causes. It includes an empty fresh tank, a leak on the outlet side, a torn diaphragm and a worn pressure switch.
A pump that kicks on by itself for a moment is putting back lost pressure. A slow drip in the lines or a worn pressure switch can cause it. Our RV water pump repair starts by tracing that pressure loss to its source.
A pump that runs but moves no water may have a clogged strainer or an air leak at the intake. One that will not start can trace to a blown fuse or loose wiring, a job for RV electrical repair. When the pump itself is worn out, we replace it.
Winters around San Marcos are mild, but freezes still come. NOAA climate normals for San Marcos count about 20 nights a year at 32 degrees or colder. In a typical year, the first freeze comes by the end of November.
Water heater and pump makers both warn that their units are damaged if water freezes inside. Lines and fittings can split the same way. A split can stay hidden until the thaw, when the water goes back on.
After a freeze, we track down the split lines and fittings and replace them. We also check the water heater and the pump before the system is refilled. The makers' manuals say to drain the water heater when freezing weather is coming.

Josh replaced the a/c and heater control board in my travel trailer he did an awesome job I highly recommend him
We discovered just 4 days before our Thanksgiving trip that our RV slide-out wasn’t working. We contacted Josh, and he came out the very same day to diagnose the issue. He quickly ordered the necessary parts and managed to get everything repaired in time for our trip. Josh was professional, efficient, and highly communicative throughout the entire process, keeping us informed every step of the way. His pricing is very reasonable, and we truly appreciate the extra effort he put in to ensure we were able to leave on time. Highly recommend his RV repair services!
Josh and his team are amazing. He replaced my roof on my wildcat 5th wheel. And once it rained he returned twice to assess any leaks and concerns. He’s my repair guy now! Thank you Josh!!!!
